Arlington PreK - Tree Sculpture

Many artists search for the type of project or idea that defines, teaches or helps progress their work and skills in an impactful way. In a grounding, reassuring, this is what I can do as an artist.

An oversimplified statement on art and its artist but that is to say; I found out what my full range of skills and knowledge were at in this project.

A unique opportunity presented itself when the architects wanted to dress up a structural column for the main entrance of the Preschool. Several ideas came about but shop limitations and other factors navigated the build towards its final form.

Its design, structure, connections and some aesthetic were left in my hands. Modeling every part and working with engineers running stress analysis. Making adjustments to the profile of the canopy to not only give an immersive visual experience but also being safe. Pulling the whole thing together are flat cut leave patters, uv printed.

With an aesthetic that is not too realistic but not so abstract. Reaching 20ft in height and 19ft in reach. The tree holds its scale compared to the rest of the building, standing visually proud from its surroundings.
