Attleboro High School - A Sculpture

Welcoming in students and embracing school spirit; stands an 8ft tall letter A. Modeled after the schools logo;

Starte the project from a model to a fabricated section prototype. The A is made out of aluminum tubing mitered and assembled with internal match plates. Welded seems ground smooth and sanded for a seamless frame. A retaining ring contouring the profile, captures aluminum plates filling in the letter giving it a full profile. Viewable 360 at the main intersection leading you towards the school.

The main challenge was the required accuracy for the mitered cuts. While tolerance was design into the project, each part had to be cut with in a 1/32” to maintain profile consistency and fit. The same patience was needed to get it out the door since it was just shy of fitting through the bay doors with 1/4” to spare in height.
